Crown Scholars Program Deadline Approaching

Can you believe it's almost December already!? I know we can't. But as we gear up for the winter break, there are several important deadlines for incoming freshman here at UNC Charlotte when it comes to scholarships. We want to take this opportunity today to go over the Crown Scholars Program, and how you can submit your application for one of UNC Charlotte’s most prestigious merit scholarship programs before the deadline on December 1, 2016.

What is it?

The Crown Scholars Program is a part of the University Honors Program and is managed by the Honors College at UNC Charlotte. The program provides scholarships to incoming freshman students who are seeking a higher level of achievement throughout their college career. Not only will the Crown Scholars Program pay $19,000 annually for tuition and fees, room and board, and other college expenses, but it is designed to deeply engage students with their studies both inside and outside of the classroom. This is why the program also includes a $5,000 stipend for study abroad opportunities approved by the University.

You can learn more about the benefits of the Crown Scholars Program by visiting their website here: http://crownscholars.uncc.edu/program-features

As the Crown Scholars Program is one of the most prestigious merit based scholarships at UNC Charlotte, there are a set of eligibility requirements in order to qualify. Please review the eligibility requirements here: http://crownscholars.uncc.edu/apply-scholarship

How much time do I have?

At the time of this posting, there are 15-days remaining before the Crown Scholars Program application deadline on December 1, 2016.

How do I apply?

Since the Crown Scholars Program is for incoming freshman, the first step is to submit your application for admissions to UNC Charlotte. You do not have to be accepted in order to start the Crown Scholars Program application!

Next, you will need to apply for the University Honors Program (UHP) since it goes hand-and-hand with the Crown Scholars Program. While you need to apply to the UHP to be considered for the Crown Scholars Program, you do not have to be accepted into the UHP before you start the application. You can apply to the UHP on their website here: https://uhpapply.uncc.edu/forms?form=UHPAPPLY

Finally, you need to use the NinerScholars Portal (administered by the University Scholarship Office) in order to submit your Crown Scholars Program application. Since the NinerScholars Portal automatically “matches” you to the scholarships for which you are eligible to apply, you should see the Crown Scholars Program in your scholarship listing if you meet the eligibility criteria. If you believe that you are eligible for the Crown Scholars Program, but have not been matched to it in NinerScholars, please contact our office.

You can login and create your NinerScholars profile using this link: https://ninerscholars.uncc.edu

When will I know if I am awarded the scholarship?

At the beginning of February 2017, Crown Scholars Program finalists will be sent notifications regarding their application status. In early-to-mid March of 2017, the Crown Scholars Program will send out offers to each of the potential recipients.

What if I have questions?

At the University Scholarship Office, we know that applying for scholarships with multiple steps can be a tough process, but we are here to help!
